Ananda Burra

Ananda Burra has a broad practice in domestic and international disputes, in state, federal, and international courts and tribunals.  He has substantial experience representing clients in commercial disputes, in mass actions in federal court, and in bringing civil rights claims against government agencies at both the trial and appellate level.  He has also regularly represented sovereign states and companies in disputes governed by public international law.

Prior to joining the Firm in 2020, Dr. Burra was a global disputes associate at Jones Day.  He previously clerked for Her Excellency Judge Joan Donoghue and His Excellency Judge Giorgio Gaja of the International Court of Justice.  He has worked with Human Rights First in Washington D.C. and held academic positions at Cambridge University and at the University of Virginia Law School.

Dr. Burra earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Michigan Law School in 2014, where he served as an editor of the Michigan Law Review, was awarded the William Bishop Prize for excellence in international law, and was inducted into the Order of the Coif.  He received his B.A. cum laude from Williams College and holds an M.A. and a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.
